And besides, The Clone Wars has created much bigger plot holes before that this one doesn't just seem to matter all that much. The short version of how Rex's chip was removed that he tells Kanan is very much a ' from a certain point of view' explanation, but as Filoni rightly points out, it doesn't necessarily create a plot hole. Like most media properties that have spanned decades, Star Wars has accrued more than a few plot holes. In fact, Star Wars even has its own phrase to help hand-wave away discrepancies - ' from a certain point of view,' first spoken by Obi-Wan in The Empire Strikes Back when he confesses to not telling Luke the whole truth about father and Darth Vader. Later on, do they have a scene where they get into the truth of it that was a lot scarier? Probably, but I think Kanan also knows that.' So Rex at that moment tells Kanan the point of view Kanan needs to understand who Rex is and what he’s really about. The final confrontation with the troopers was hands-down one of the most visually impressive scenes Star Wars has ever pulled off, with one lightsaber-wielding former Jedi and one Clone Trooper. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi named Count Dooku, thousands of solar systems threaten to break away from the Galactic Republic. Ten years after the invasion of Naboo, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. I think that’s where you can get hung up on continuity so much that you don’t actually tell a story that’s about real people. I think he sees that as true and I think it’s one way that he’s coped with things. 'When you reach him in Rebels and he says, ‘I took out my control chip’ to Kanan as a way of explaining that we all can make a choice. This why some consider what Clone Wars chose to show as creating a plot hole in regards to what Rebels already established, but Filoni doesn't agree. There's no mention of Ahsoka's involvement, and it's almost implied it happened prior to Order 66 being given. When Rex later explains the removal of his chip to Kanan in Rebels, he doesn't go into any of the detail viewers witness in The Clone Wars season 7.
